I think it was around the summer of 2002. Max was around six and Anne was eight. Our family took a western Caribbean cruise that summer. hopping many islands around Caribbean for a week.
While we were discussing the trip, Max asked us whether they could take their sand toys. I told them that I would buy a new one when we get there because I didn’t want to take the toys in an airplane. They immediately asked me.
“Can you put it in writing?”
Max obviously did not trust their parents.
Everyone just burst into laughter.
After all this was the kid who made money selling smarties from their lunchables to their friends during the school bus ride home.
We found out one day because one of their “customers” called us to complain that Max shut him out because he complained about the price. Max sold the smarty as much as two dollars, which was almost the price of the entire Lunchables.
When I told Max that they was overcharging, they just told me,
“I never set the price, but took whatever was offered to me.” as a matter of fact tone.
When we were playing by the beach during our cruise one day, Anne had to go to the bathroom. Kevin and Eugene were playing with Jae in the ocean so it was only Max and Anne who were playing with sand on the beach.
I asked Max whether they could watch my bag while I take Anne to the bathroom since they didn’t need to go, Max looked at me and asked.
“What were you going to do if I also had to go to the bathroom ?”
“oh, then I would take the bag with me.” I answered without thinking.
“Then why can’t you bring it with you now?” I couldn’t find another response because it was so logical.
“Oh you’re right Max!”
So I took my bag with me.
