17: 주무시고 가실래요 Banyan tree

When the travel ban from the pandemic finally got lifted, the first place my husband and I headed for was Maui.

There were tough regulations for us visitors to follow, but it was well worth it. The weather was beautiful, and it felt less crowded than it would have been under normal circumstances.

One of my favorite memories from that trip happened during morning yoga. The yoga session was by our hotel, under two big trees looking out at the Pacific Ocean. The trees were large, their branches spanning wide like an umbrella. They told me that the tree was called a banyan tree. One of the Hawaiian workers explained that hosts of birds take shelter under banyan trees during hot days and fly back out near sundown. She told me it was a spectacular sight to see, the mass of birds flying out from all the banyan trees simultaneously.

It made me reflect about why I’m so passionate about caring for others and opening my home for those who ask. I would like to live my life like a banyan tree, providing shelter for people. How lovely it is to know people can rest and take shelter under my shade…
